OK, thanks for the info!

I wasn't aware of the On-The-Go stuff.
I assumed that any serious USB audio device would use bulk-mode
transfers (and rely entirely on a fixed local clock). Doing so I
assumed would require interaction with a customised device driver on
the PC side (and I might be totally wrong on this assumtion). I'll do
some more research into this stuff, so thanks again for the link!
