My understanding is the S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect
Format) specifies a 75R coaxial cable and phono connectors.

The optical version (which uses the same data formatting) was developed
by Toshiba and is commonly called Toslink.

But I'm happy to stand corrected.
