Ideally, you shouldn't be able to see him. That's where things get complicated for a home test. People can give off subtle clues that this one "should" sound better than the other. So subtle that they're not picked up unless you're well-trained and watching for them... or by the subconscious. That's why "double-blind" matters... if a doctor knows which patients are getting placebos he may see improvement that isn't there or convince the patient they are getting better/worse when they aren't.
