Why do you mention 50%?
Are you implying that in 50% of the cases the phase is just reversed?
If so, a simple phase inversion will restore correct phase.

In my experience phase inversion on almost any recording (of the ones I
usually listen to, admittedly) a substantial difference can be heard.

Also, it seems phase coherency is confused with absolute polarity in a
lot of the discussions here.
