yes, that could be what I heard - but remember I'm only changing the polarity of one of the signals so their relative phase to each other is truly changing by 180 degrees...
A change in level (rather than pitch) seems reasonable - that could be the speaker "non-symmetric" behavour being exacerbated by your special test tone.
