There is no one outstanding hard drive manufacturers at the moment, like wise there are none that you should go out of your way to avoid.
This isn't always the case and some manufacturers do go though bad patches - IBM had a very bad period with a range of their DeskStar drives that were known as DeathStar drives as they were so unreliable. Go for one that has a 5 year warranty and you should be set. Samsung drives are quiet, but only go up to 250gig. Seagate have the largest capacity one out there: 750gig Western Digital have the fastest: the Raptor. but this isn't needed for holding your music. On my workbench i have 2x 400gig Western Digitals, 2x 250gig Maxtors and a Seagate. There is also a 500gig Maxtor in my NAS (Network Attached Storage) box. I have no brand loyalty, these were just the drives with the most convenient sizes, costs and availability at the time of purchase. :) -- funkstar ------------------------------------------------------------------------ funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24616 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
