Of course cable length causing rolloff is a possible issue with pot style passives. The shorter the better. That is why things like the passive attenuators right at the amp input jacks or integrated in the same box is a good idea.
But don't automatically assume that all passives are just a pot on the wire. What about transformer volume control (TVC)? They are a totally different animal from just a pot in a box. TVC's can even be wired to provide a tiny bit of gain if you need it. TVC's aren't as hard a load on your source as a pot either. I'm running a pair of S&B TX102s and I think its a great match for my system (full details in sig). They provide a totally black background and music starts and stops on a dime. -- samplesj Jeremy '2 Channel system' (http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/member_systems.php?sysid=619) / 'HT system' (http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/member_systems.php?sysid=620) / 'Den' (http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/member_systems.php?sysid=636) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ samplesj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25614 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
