Has anyone asked what the knob's for?
Essentially, turning the knob is equivalent to pressing the up and down arrows on the remote. Pushing the knob is like pressing the right arrow, and the BACK button on the front panel is like pressing the left arrow button.
Now, with the ability to do force feedback, we can provide detents for each item in a list and have hard stops at the beginning and end of the list (and have those stops move based on how long the list is.) We can also add larger and smaller detents based on groups (i.e. moving from items starting with A to items starting with B can have a heavier detent than items that all begin with the same letter), allow the user to push past the stop to wrap around, etc.
We've gotten basic navigation working well with the knob and haven't really explored all the possibilities of it and plan to tune the user interface in subsequent software updates.
It's a really cool bit of technology and I'm excited to see what clever things our open source community comes up with for it!
