Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I don't consider you a sceptic of all things audiophile. It is the "a
volt is a volt"-brigade I'm addressing.

BTW, the switcher issue might need to be addressed differently. How
much noise is dumped into other components via the power outlets?
Measuring a few different SB3+DAC setups as complete systems might be
interesting. If a switcher causes increased jitter on the receiving
side -through power supply ingteraction- then it would explain the
difference. (Not to mention possible effects on analogue circuitry
upstream.)
