Read with interest your comparison to Arcam Alpha 9 , I have an Arcam CD72 which sounds pretty gorgeous. Been doing some comparisons between the Squeeze Box and the Cd Player and they are just miles apart. Tried both optical and Digital Outputs from the SB and A/B'd with CD Player on it's Co-axial output. Difference is in every area really, imaging much less precise, less bottom end , less warmth and SB treble sound tinys by comparison. I havn't even bothered checking out the analogue output from the SB as I read elsewhere that it was disappointing. So I began to wonder if the big difference I find comparing SB and the CD player was as much down to the ripping. By the way all the CD's I have ripped so far are all WAV with no compression and using Itunes. So I downloaded "Exact Audio Copy" and ripped the same CD again. Was pretty tired at this point but I didn't really notice much difference than the version ripped with Itunes. So would a good DAC sort things out I wonder? Is the DAC in my CD player superior? Loath to spend loads of money in case I'm wrong.... Amp is Arcam AVR200, Monitor Audio Floor Standing Speakers....
