Unless you are comparing matched levels, you can't tell if there is an
improvement or not. Human ears prefer louder, lower quality every time.
The gain in the Benchmark DAC-1 can be controlled by internal jumpers
to match levels with other components. I had to lower it, as the
SqueezeBox to DAC-1 was a lot louder than the audio RCA outputs of my
SqueezeBox direct.
