Correction - where you're saying "Big Ben", you really mean "Digital
Lens". The product you're referring to is the Genesis Digital Lens,
circa 1996, which does have a 512kb RAM buffer. 

The other product is the contemporary Apogee Big Ben. While you can
hear difference in sources with the Digital Lens, you don't with the
Big Ben. I have no idea whether the Big Ben uses a RAM buffer or not.
