Clive--I wasn't questioning your statement. I said "if what you say is true" in the sense of, given that what you say is true, then... The point of my original post was to dig into this, myths and all. So I really do want to understand all the details of this, and how it all works. seanadams;146533 Wrote: > Moving parts are bad - they are unreliable, slow, noisy, inconvenient, > etc, but they are NOT a source of clock jitter in the way that people > seem to think. Okay, so here's where I'm still not sure of things. The analog out of the SB3 seems to be better than many CD players costing twice as much. I've also noticed that even my iPod has some sonic characteristics that are better than my mid-range CD player (Music Hall CD-25, with analog mods and improved op-amps). Also, even though I'm very skeptical of these kinds of things, my CD player does sound better when I put those stupid ISO pads under it (reducing error rates?). >From all of this discussion, am I to conclude that these differences in sound quality are due in large part to lots of errors in the real-time data reading of the CD in the traditional CD player? It's not jitter (from the above), it's unlikely that it's better quality parts (I don't think the SB3 has better parts than the Music Hall), it probably in part due to better design, but is it fair to say it's in large part due to lots of errors coming off the CD transport and not enough time or error correction information to fix it? Fundamentally, why are network based transports like the SB3 better than CD trasnports? -- pvadbx ------------------------------------------------------------------------ pvadbx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5719 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28621 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
