I've just finished playing with the old computer PSU, its an old one not
an ATX supply ($5 used). 5.19 volts unloaded. It sounds quite good to
me.

The down side the fan is noisey and it interfers with the squeezebox
especially noticeable during booting up of the SB. There is an unusal
noise as the text scrolls across the screen.

So I won't rule out switchmode supplies if the interference could be
overcome. Seeing the original PSU doesn't have the problem I guess
modern switchmode supplies are possibly better in this area.

BTW: My test are not controlled AB tests like tomjtx. Its only me, and
it takes at least a minute to go from one PSU to the other.

regards
