Actually you don't want to use balanced connections if you don't use a pre amp. The attenuation jumpers inside the TP affect the unbalanced connectors only. You might want to consider the Jeff Rowland integrated amplifier. It matches well visually and even has a cool knob :-) It also sounds great. You can also by pass it's built in pre amp if you want
