Well 24/96 support was one thing I wanted, but hadn't actually tried out
until tonight. I ripped a couple of 24/96 music DVD's, and gave them a
try. My first experiment was just to play raw .wav files, and that
worked fine. Next I pulled them into iTunes, and converted them to
Apple Lossless. Trying to play those files was a dismal failure. The
Transporter spit out a couple of short bursts of static, and then my
SlimServer computer starting poping up messages that the alac.exe had
committed a fatal error and had to be shut down. During this cycle the
Transporter didn't respond to the remote (including the power down
button), and it wasn't until I convinced the slimserver to stop playing
(at the computer) that I got control back again....
So at this point, raw .wavs seem ok (and are playing as I type this),
but Apple Lossless seems to be a wash. I'll give FLAC a try tomorrow
evening, and let you know how it goes!
Cheers,
Dave
