OK, so how about helping the nice developers by framing a coherent
enhancement request? I'm thinking specifically relating to the second
display...
As a starter, I think some of the confusion arises because of the way
the second display is supported. If I understand correctly, the core
slimserver code (together with firmware) has been minimally extended to
allow a few different uses for the second display, including (1)
visualisers and (2) extended text. But the core code doesn't as far as
I can see do anything with the extended text - that is left to the
MusicInfoScr plugin, which has been adapted so that all its previous
options are now available for both screens.
So far so good, but this doesn't add up to a coherent model for two
screens.
This is why, I think, I can't get the particular combination I was
looking for (second screen is analog VUs while playing/screensaver, but
extended text while in "now playing" mode).
How about we get to choose exactly what we want to see on each screen
in each of several modes? EG

You'd need other choices, as we already have, to define what format you
wanted for titles etc.
The <pull down> options should include your favoured song title format,
the MUsicInfoScr plugin, and the various visualisers.
This clearly needs more specification work but is this the right line?
