P Floding, that is really interesting! Especially how the wall-wart seems to degrade simply by being plugged only into the wall (and the other side presumably left unplugged). I wonder, do you have (or could you source) an optical cable to try? I would be quite interested to know if replacing the coax cable with optical affected anything audibly in the setup at all...
