What software are you using for playback?  My guess would be that it's
the playback software and/or Windows' KMixer that are responsible for
the differences in sound.  You might have some equilization going on in
the software, or some type of dsp effects.  This could easily lead you
to think that the SB sounds dry in comparison.

Software wise, I don't think there's much you can do about the
Squeezebox's sound (or maybe there's an equilazation plugin floating
about?), but you may improve the sound with a better power supply.
