Hi All,
I just got my new Transporter yesterday ending an eager waiting period,
after being thoroughly impressed by the convenience of the SqBx in my HT
setup. I thought I'd add my 2c worth to this thread.

I was also seriously considering replacing my source with a TP on my
second 2ch 'music-only' system, *assuming I can get alteast comparable
quality* as the orginal poster stated...

I don't consider myself to be an 'audiophile' of any sort, but I do
consider myself to be a discerning listener who loves music and has a
marginally-better-than wooden ear for quality (but not necessarily the
budget sometimes, lol!)

Also, I am a professional engineer, who has designed ICs, worked with
mixed signal and RF circuits (& all sort of analog-y components), as
well as done a fair bit of pcb-level design for a number of years. I
have also had a bit of training to play the classical piano, violin,
and flute, so I love my music when I am not working, or doing my wife's
honey-do lists ;-)

B.S. aside, my 2 CH setup is :
Quad Electrostatics ESL-988 spkrs
Arcam FMJ CD23 (w/dcs ring-dac, it is claimed)
Audio Research 100.2 amplifiers
Homebrew Penny and Giles potentiometer serving as a passive attenuator
(no preamp)
(and optional Adcom GFP-750 preamp sitting in the cupboard, with
NelsonPass-designed ClassA single stage amplifier, it is claimed)
Cables are mostly Kimber, and other assorted ones I cant spell most of
the time, but they all add up and sound reasonably good....(to me,
atleast)
[Btw, both the ESL988 and GFP-750 were on Stereophile's ClassA list,
but I have my reservations about the GFP...esp after getting rid of the
preamp and going passive]

First impressions on Transporter: disappointment! I might seriously
consider sending back my unit by the end of the 30 day period for a
refund. I expected a lot better based on the advertising.

Details to follow, if I get time to pen stuff. I setup the transporter
yesterday to run through a 30hr 'burn-in' period to see if things
'settle down' a bit.

[Please - no flames on this one - I hate it enough when I have to deal
with continuous conflicts between the engineering side of my brain and
the musical side of my brain]

I thought I'd post my nonsensical thoughts as I contemplate whether I
should simply bite the bullet and buy an offboard DAC w/optionally some
sort of jitter cleaner and go with the $300 Squeezebox, or stay with the
Transporter as a 'compact' package.

Cheers.
