No, you don't have to. You should be able to use your PC for this. I
think you will be able to set up the optical output in the control
panel. I am not sure if softsqueeze uses the direct audio driver - if
not, you will have to go through the Windows mixer (kmixer?) and the
sound will be degraded.

You can also use foobar2000 (which does use direct IO) to play your
flac's but you will the miss the ease of use which we all have grown
used to and love so much.
