It could be that the Rotel is picky about the type of CD-R, or just about CD-R disks in general.
I know i had to jump through hoops to get the CD player in my VW Golf to play all the way through without skipping. I'm now using a Sony head unit, but still burn my audio at 4x with VariRec turned on on my Plextor Ultraplex.
