I am not an engineer so I hesitate to make this statement, but I think
that you may have a mismatch between the gain that is being applied by
the SB3 and the gain of your amp.   Even very high end pre-amps that
are very high gain will match poorly with high-gain and  high sensitity
power amps.  That is one of the reasons why so-called "system matching"
is very important.  There is a discussion on the role of pre-amps on
another thread in this forum, but it has been my experience over the
last 20 years or so that most systems need a true preamp both because
gain needs to be matched and because of impedance matching issues.  I
kind of doubt the SB3 was primarily designed to be plugged into an amp
and used as a combo source/preamp, though of course, I may be wrong. 
Presumably Sean or someone else at Slim Devices could clarify this
issue.
