I seem to recall a post many months ago when Sean Adams stated that the SB3 performs best with the display on bright. IIRC, it was something about how when the display is off or dimmed the input to the DC-DC converter that powers both the display and the analog circuits approaches its minimum useable value.
Try turning the display on and see if you still have a noise problem.
