Hey, don't feel bad about this. Getting a negative result from a blind
A/B comparison is the "Road to Damascus" moment that opens the door to
rational thinking for many audiophiles. It happened to me when
comparing DACs about 5 years ago.

In this case, you appear to have demonstrated that there is no
discernable audible difference between the stock SMPS and a linear
supply, in the context of your system. As you say, it's possible that
your system isn't revealing enough. But there are other explanations.
For example, Sean Adams has in the past explained why changing the
external PS shouldn't make any difference - seems reasonably plausible
that he might know what he's talking about.

FWIW, my hypothesis is that the reason the SMPS sounds worse in some
people's systems is not because of the actual supply to the Squeezebox,
but because it sprays all sorts of nasty RFI around the place, which
could affect the analogue circuitry in other components. Some systems
will be more vulnerable to this than others. But remember this is just
a hypothesis to try and fit various people's findings.

Performers -> dozens of mixers and effects -> clipped/hypercompressed
mastering -> you think a few extra ps of jitter matters?
