Having read here about Linn Records, I checked it out - cool!

I downloaded some 88.2 KHz / 24 bit WMA files, and attempted to play
them on my wireless SB3 (using Slimserver 6.5.1 running on my laptop.)
That worked, but the files were apparently converted on-the-fly to a
44.1 KHz / 16 bit pcm stream, according to the debug messages I was
watching come out of Slimserver. It uses wmadec to do that, and there
is no 24-bit conversion option available ("wmadec -r 44100 -b 16" is
what is used.)

So, I used dBpowerAMP, version R12, to first convert the WMA files to
WAV, and then ran the program again to convert to 48 KHz / 24 bit FLAC.
Those played perfectly on the SB3.

Although it would not do it in one step (WMA --> WAV --> FLAC,) I do
recommend dBpowerAMP for these types of conversions, as it will do an
entire folder of tracks in a conversion.

I am listening to my 48 KHz / 24 bit version of Linn Records studio
master of Handel's Messiah, streaming on my SB3, and driving my CI
Audio VDA-2 DAC - it sounds fantastic.

Although Slimserver will down-convert an 88.2 KHz WMA file while
streaming, it will not down-convert an 88.2 KHz WAV file. I am not sure
if it will handle the same in FLAC - have not tried that yet.

It is interesting seeing my SB3 streaming a WAV file as high as 2304K!
