There's an audiophile I'm friendly with who invites me over to his place every few months. The invitation is usually expressed as "Hey, I have a new component that I'd like to have you hear and get your thoughts." This has gone on for about 3 years now. The last time I was there, he had some new amplifiers that he had in his system, and I was providing him with my observations about the sound. After giving him my thoughts, he makes a comment that "you always make comments about the gear and not the music. Do you actually like music?" I was stunned to say the least...mostly because he always invites me over "to hear a new component", but also because most of the music he likes to use as demo when I visit is audiophile-fare from recording labels such as MapleShade and Chesky (great recordings, average/below-average performances IMH).
