If you have to change the question to make your point then this will be
no fun. You said speed wasn't a concern.

You can't know anything is accurate without a checksum, which I'm
thinking isn't incorporated into any drive's firmware. EAC is the best
at disabling a cheap drive's cache so that a true checksum can be
performed. 

Your aversion to using EAC perplexes me. It was built for you (and
people like you). Setting it up doesn't require a four year degree, in
fact I find the controls -dare I say- fun. YMMV.
