When trying to reach the final solution to be able to skip totally the normal CD transport I'm struggling with the following question:
What is to your experience the ultimate difference in a direct AB comparison between 1. CD feeding directly a DAC and compared to 2. Slimserver feeding Apple lossless using Wireless LAN and SB 3 connected to the same DAC as with the CD direct? My experience is that we are very near the same quality, but for some reason there still seems to be some air and spatial information in the uppermost regions missing. The same thing seems to be the summary of Stereophiles test of the great Slim Devices Transport unit. They are comparing the Ayre universal player against the Transport. Questions: 1. To my understanding the network cant be the difference or? Any audio benefit from connecting ethernet direct? 2. The hardware in the standard SB3? But that is not maybe the answer as Sterephile got the same impression with the Transport and that having much better power filtering etc. 3. What upgrade to the standard SB3 have given you the biggest uplift in audio performance?
