Decoding straightforward algorithms is nothing for a modern CPU loadwise. This stuff is merely a matter of never starving the buffer of the unit that truly converts things into sound, i.e. analog. Up until that point, the advantagte of digital is that with a good enough design and a signal path that does not cause bit loss everything that happens to that last point doesn't really matter - the data going into it is exactly the same as the data that went into the beginning of the chain. Whether a bit is pretty or not does not matter as long as it's within spec. All the rest can be accounted for with the appropriate buffer design at the remote end of the digital transmission chain, the D in the DA. It can account for delay, jitter and what not. opaqueice;185562 Wrote: > So why, for example, are people obsessed with this and not concerned > that wireless sounds worse than wired? There is absolutely no engineering reason why it should. Wireless does not even remotely pose a system bottleneck. And both ports are active the whole time, unless the SBQ interface provides a way to truly disable either I don't know why it would make a difference - the protocol is active trying to establish connectivity, whether it finds it or not, so the elements that could lead to signal contamination are actrive. I could imagine that in some system the usual RF interference may make a difference given a final analog stage that is more vulnerable? Anser - move the SB around and see if that make a difference. I don't hear a difference between wireless and wired at *all*. And this is coming out of a chain with a degree of accuracy that is sometimes too crystal clear for it's own good, brutally revealing weaknesses in any somewhat flawed source. I've tested it both through loudspeakers and headphones. -- pablolie ------------------------------------------------------------------------ pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32999 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
