The problem with online distribution of music in FLAC format is that
even broadband connections are rather on the slow side. Figure that a
600MB CD compresses to 350MB and you're still looking at a half hour or
so to download over a 1.5Mbps connection (and that assumes everything
works at full speed.) If you want multiple albums, the time to download
really adds up fast. If you want to use your computer for other online
access during the download, you have slow access to the other material
and also increase further the time required to download the music. 

A CD is still a pretty efficient way to package and distribute music to
a wide audience. (Also keep in mind that there is an active buy/sell
market in used CDs that can help you keep your costs down.)
