What matters with SPDIF is the jitter between successive clock edges, but neither image actually shows this. What's needed is a plot from a time interval analyser. The plots instead show pulse shape and noise level, which only really hint at an improvement - they don't actually demonstrate one.
That's not to say that there's anything wrong with the SB+ - I'm sure that in reality it's quite the opposite. Consider the basic squeezebox as a component, like a CD transport, and it makes a lot of sense to build an audiophile component around it.
