Aha.  This makes me feel better - the motherboard in my SlimServer
machine died recently and I've bought a new power supply, CPU and now
motherboard trying to fix it.

I hate spending money on obsolete technology (I'd rather spend $600 on
a new Core 2 Duo setup) but this makes me feel a bit better.

That's the benchmarking performance I was seeing, incremental speed
increases at least until you get to the Core 2 Duo 6600 and 6700, but
not a 10X increase.
