The only way I can get 24/96 off a DVD or DVD-A is using any number of tools to get the "raw data stream" off. Then use LPCM24 to convert it. None of the tools seems to put the right header on it if you try to go direct to PCM wave, but LPCM24 fixes it.
I have DVD Audio Extractor and it will look like it works straight to PCM Wave but it doesn't.
