IF you mean lossy compression then I can hear all sorts of problems with cymbals even at 320Mbps - I'm not sure I'd say it sounds "shredded" - rather somewhat "unreal" or "artificial" - hard to explain.
It doesn't happen on every record. I also think it depends on whether or not the cymbals (and this only applies to pop/rock) are coming from a sampler or are real mic recordings of actual live cymbals.
