Thanks - these are very interesting experiences. Sadly my phones have not yet arrived (hopefully tomorrow). If they do indeed sound like ESL's on your ears I will be very happy! I'm not a fan of Grado's (heresy I know but I find them rather tiresome) - and Sennheiser 650's left me rather "cold". I'll report back - my first challenge is to figure out how to wire up the headamp to my 5103...I've never used the tape outputs! - and I can't use the pre-amp outs because they are after the bass management has already siphoned off the subwoofer output.
