Very sorry, didnt see your post. Well, dont know if you read up on the upsampling dac from Bryston ? The sound is very different from the analog out of SB3 , and digital from the SB3 to the Bryston dac. I wont say night and day, but some audiophiles would I think. The soundstage grows a lot in size which means the music is free from the speakers. Analog from SB3 sound something like a left and right channel with a center channel for voices thrown in, it doesnt come together as music, thats maybe the best way to describe it. The SB3 analog is, to me, very weak in upperbass/lower midrange, it sounds a bit thin, this is transformed a lot with the Bryston dac. Extension in treble and treble quality is actually another world with the Bryston dac, its like someone switched a high filter off ! Bass is deeper, and you actually hear notes you didnt know was on the cd compared to the blurry bass of the analog SB3. Everything improves a lot with the Bryston dac, it also should for that money, but actually I am a bit surprised as to how big the difference is ( I can compare instantly with a switch of a botton via remote ) but reading the tests the Bryston dac got I must agree with the tremendous praise it gets. So, yes, the upgrade is definetely worth it. Again, compared to a cheap cd player, then the analog ou of SB3 is okay, but in my opinion its not "hifi quality", not for us nutcases anyway. -- Anne Squeezebox 3 > Stereovox XV2 > Bryston B100-DA SST > Martin Logan Aeon I > Sennheiser HD580 Precision ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Anne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35642 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
