It's probably even more complicated than simply moving the re-sampling
into slimserver. You know as soon as you did that some idiot (like
me!) would be complaining that when I sync my Transporter to my SB3, I
only get a 48K rate on the Transporter. Then I'd complain, why can't
you sync two different sample rates so I don't hear echo's as I move
around the house!

I can certainly understand Sean's frustration! As well as
understanding why some companies like to obselete older gear asap.
Thankfully Slim isn't following that business plan...

As for the benefits of 96K, it's not that any of us could ever hear
much beyond 20KHz, or that we really want to please any passing bats,
it's trying to remove the effects of the anti-aliasing filters from the
audible high end. There's lots of argument over this topic, but you
probably can hear 11KHz, and that's only an octave lower than the
corner frequency of the anti-aliasing filter for a CD sampling rate.
That's also into the range where directional perception is working.
The difference is subtle, and requires a good system and good source
material to hear, but I'm convinced it is real.

As always, your mileage may vary!
Dave
