Well I was listening to Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, Songbird to be
precise and it all sounded a bit smoothed off. This was of course with
all components on the filter as usual. So I played a bit.

First test was amp without filter, transport/DAC on filter. This
sounded more forward, which spotlighted the vocals more. I could still
hear the piano of course but it felt a little lost somehow - however at
least the vocal had sparkle to it.

All off filter, same comments, perhaps a little less refinement but I
couldn't be sure in this quick test.

Bringing it all back to filter, it wasn't a dull as I remembered it but
the vocals had less sparkle. The piano was back in the soundstage and
the song sounded more of a piece and musical.

I would say with filter it is more natural (probably better imaging)
but without filter it did make the vocals more pristine, but at the
expense of a colder quality. In summary, for this limited experience I
preferred the filter.

However, I'd like to experiment with buying another filter and popping
the amp on that. I could imagine the Krell creating noise and I wonder
if separating the power filtering like that might be good for the lower
power equipment.
