Theoretically it is overkill - since the SB2 has internal regulators, it will make little or no difference. No-one has reliably measured better performance with a better PSU, just cleaner power. However, I think you answer your questions in your post: you consider this to be low-cost, and it looks like you'll have fun doing it. What's the downside? Even if you can't hear any difference, you will have had fun and provided another datapoint on this long-running debate! Worst case, if you can hear no difference you can either flog it on ebay or start a round-robin with other forum members to let us try it!
