No, its not always the same.  Although the sequence of 1s and 0s ought
to be the same, this has to be represented by an analog electrical or
optical signal which can have timing or other imperfections.  These
imperfections may or may not trouble the device that is receiving the
signal: a signal with a lot of noise in it will obviously present more
of a challenge to the receiver.

Typically this shows up as "jitter" (search the forums for many, many
threads on this topic) which can have some subtle distorting effect on
the receiver.

But a really top class receiving device (presumeably a DAC in this
case) might be able to overcome any noise and make all sources sound
alike.
