You're right - there is no way of adding back accurate information. It's always a guess. But, if I can make a pretty good guess - based on a thorough analysis of the samples I do have before and after the gap, I can potentially provide additional information that, while not accurate, may be better than no additional information at all. At least, that's my goal.
