I bought my PMC AB-1s from a recording studio about 10 years ago, and they were in use for some considerable time before that.
I can say that the PMCs have provided good service, they are pretty bullet-proof. They can go very loud with low distortion and have good detail and imaging and extended bass - although the last quality depends on masses of class-A current, which I don't have any more unfortunately. Loudspeaker technology has moved on, though, and the latest designs from PMC and ATC offer a more neutral response. Darren PS: BTW cliveb's approach with an active speaker is one I am interested in, for no other reason than it gets me off the upgrade bandwagon. I would hope that any concerns about amplifier vibration are engineered out, and that the amps are superbly matched to the drivers. Also the SCM-100s look gorgeous in a Bauhaus sense :-) I heard some ATCs at the HFN Show several years back (Mana support demo) and they were impressive. -- darrenyeats Monarchy CLD-M401 transport -> Sony DAS-703ES DAC -> Krell KAV-300i -> PMC AB-1 (home-made room treatments and supports) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ darrenyeats's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10799 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37059 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
