Doesn't it really irritate you when you're in the pub and people don't
talk about exactly what you want to talk about?

My uncle used to host dinner parties where he and my aunt would plan
certain topics of conversation, doing some research and having some
interesting (ish) snippets to chivvy things along. They were really
really boring.

/sarcasm :)

Really it's just one of those things; it happens everywhere. If people
ask about cables, the topic *will* move to Nazis. It's not really worth
getting too excited about. If it has moved too off-topic, start up
another thread and put some gently sarcy comment in.

Part of the problem is that the original post rarely defines the
requirement fully. Does the OP want a detailed scientific analysis of
the skin effect, or does he want people's experience with $1,000/m
cables?

Ultimately, this is a forum not a google search. All the information
that is posted here is probably findable by a bot. If all you want is
straight information, use google. If you want people to contribute
something of themselves, you have to allow them some leeway and expect
them to put their own slant on how the 'conversation' may progress.
