John, if you don't want to take up quietdragon's suggestion, try one that may be a bit more straightforward. There have been some people who claim to have heard differences in the FLAC conversion, depending on whether it's done offboard or internal to the SB. In Slimserver, go to Server Settings > File Types. Listen to the same song or songs with the selection as FLAC->FLAC and FLAC->WAV. If you want to make it fair have someone else make the change. See if one sounds better than the other.
