This is correct, and it is a 'quick fix' to make them play.  It is
better to use something like DBPowerAmp to convert them to 24/44.1 or
24/48 properly rather than just missing out half the samples, and
that'll save bandwidth too!

There was a bug (now fixed) in which 24/88.2 played, but at half speed.
If you are using SS of c. 6.5.2 or earlier, this might explain the
behaviour of SS.

Not sure about the digital output.
