ImpulsePrep first calculates the measured impulse response. This is passed to DRC to create the regular filters. Then, it filters the measured impulse, with a sliding lowpass window. For low frequencies, effectively the whole impulse response is unchanged. For progressively higher frequencies, a filter gently begins to cut those frequencies, at a start-time corresponding to the frequency. The higher the frequency, the sooner after the main impulse the filter starts to take effect. The effect of this is to create an impulse response which corresponds more to the "direct sound" than the "room sound". This filtered impulse can then be sent to DRC to build a second set of correction filters. The result -- well, the only point is to have a different approach to listen to.
