I don't think cost was much of a consideration when Siegfried selected the drivers. IIRC the woofers were chosen for their high xmax, which for dipole bass is crucial (because there's a 6dB/octave falloff in power at low frequency, and it needs to be compensated for with equalization in the active crossovers - but that means large excursions for the woofers). I don't know enough about tweeters to comment, but my impression was that the Seas units are pretty highly regarded.
