The original suggestion (a SB with some kind of higher-quality digital out) was a bad one, in my opinion.
It's ideal having the DAC directly connected (as in, on the same circuit board) to a clean data buffer. That's much simpler than trying to slave one box to another, or design a jitter immune DAC. So why would you want to spoil that ideal arrangement?
