Consumer receivers are famous for having mediocre analog paths, if they 
have one at all. A lot of them digitize everything so they can do the 
DSP effects.

I fully appreciate underpowered amps.
I used to have Large Advents, which were extremely power hungry.
They sounded much better with a 400 wpc amp than a 120wpc one. The other 
thing I grew to hate about the Advents was that they sounded great when 
loud, but very lifeless at moderate volumes.
